Out of the box. Into The Drive-in

What’s old is new again.

Let’s face it. COVID-19 has disrupted almost every conceivable aspect of life over the past few months and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future until treatments are available to the general public. While the pandemic has certainly brought on a fair share of pessimism, it has also led to some really innovative and creative ideas, particularly in the entertainment space. The NBA has overtaken Disney World’s Wide World of Sports to host the remainder of their season and playoff run. The UFC ran a summertime schedule of fight cards on an island. Perhaps the most creative idea out of them all is from Stand-up Comedian, Bert Kreischer.

With comedy clubs and theaters shut down for an indefinite period of time, Kreischer, known for his trademark party animal persona, decided to run a summer tour of shows at drive-in movie theaters around the country. The drive-in concept allows for fans to attend and enjoy a show while socially distancing safely in the comfort of their own vehicle. Drive-in theaters, seemingly a feature staple of yesteryear, suddenly find new life again in 2020 with strict health guidelines forcing everyone to reimagine their activities. Coinciding with the tour, the comic is documenting all of the happenings of his tour as he travels from town to town on a tour bus with short-form content for his YouTube and social media channels and series of podcasts.

It will be interesting to see what other entertainment acts follow a similar model. Cheers to Bert Kreischer and his team for not only showcasing creative content marketing skills, but also designing a fun and safe way for fans to enjoy a few laughs in a live setting during challenging times.
